Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 14: Believe it or not, when assembly elections in the state have reached to its last phase and no political party is leaving any stone unturned to ensure their win, but some people were spotted allegedly conducting survey in the guise of exit polls in Gandhinagar constituency in Jammu district in sheer violation of Model Code of Conduct where polling is going to be held on December 20.
This incident happened in Old Satwari Panchayat of Gandhinagar constituency just few days back where a youth was spotted conducting pre poll survey asking several questions to the people of the area about their favorite candidate and party.
Immediately after the incident, the locals looked surprise and felt suspicion over the incident and the way the survey was conducted. "The incident happened on December 9 when a youth of nearly 22-23 years old of age entered into my house and showed his identity as a media person from "Sky Plus Media" conducting survey for exit polls," said Surjeet Kumar resident of the Old Satwari, while narrating the whole episode.
After getting positive response from me, the so called media person started enquiring about the number of voters in my family, Surjeet said. "He asked me to give the names of the voters and their contact number and asked me about my favorite party whom I will vote on December 20"
"I provided him all the information without thinking for a second that the person might be impersonating of being a media person," he said. He further said that the youth was so confident and well suited that he could not suspect and way he was collecting information about us.
He further said "I asked him to show the list in which he had written the information about the voters of his areas and their favorite party; I was shocked to see the information." The suspected youth feeling uncomfortable then left the place in hurry.
"Later I came to know that same survey was conducted in the entire Old Satwari village. People started discussing the incident in the evening and when this incident reached some law knowing people they said the survey cannot be conducted during imposition of Model Code of Conduct and even the agencies which conducted the survey cannot collect their personal information like their names, and phone number etc," they said.
The expert suspected some hidden agenda against the conduct of such survey and the vital information can be used by some political parties to motivate the voters.
When contacted the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Umag Narual gave audience to the whole narrative , but said since he was busy preparing elections schedule directed this reporter to contact contact DDC Jammu Ajit Kumar Sahu. After repeated calls even Sahu did not pick phone to respond.
