Migrants lose chance to send their representative in Assembly
12/16/2014 12:14:54 AM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 15: With low percentage of polling in some Assembly segments of Kashmir Valley coupled with division of vote among various political parties the migrant vote could have become a decisive factor in at least five Assembly segments of Kashmir valley.
According to sources migrants vote which was over 16000 in the Habba Kadal Assembly segment could have become easily a decisive factor in this Assembly Constituency where only 13000 votes were polled. Had only 9,000 to 10,000 migrants opted for their M Forms the community could have easily send an MLA to Assembly. However, only 2600 votes were polled from this Assembly segment.
Likewise in Bijbehara Assembly segment migrants who had over 5000 vote could have become a turning point in this assembly segment which has also over 4000 vote of other minorities provided they were polled for a single party or candidate.
Likewise in Amirakadal Constituency which also had a low turnout of polling yesterday had over 4000 migrant votes. Besides, there were over 2000 votes of other minorities in this Assembly segment. But out of 4000 migrant votes only 829 votes were polled in this Constituency. In Batmaloo Assembly segment which also has about 4000 migrant votes while Anantnag Assembly segment has also over 4000 migrant votes. While in Bijbehara 1431 votes were polled in Anantnag Assembly segment a paltry number of 796 votes were polled. In Batmaloo 466 migrant votes were polled. The lack of interest by displaced people in elections has debarred the chances of a community to send its representative or the representative of its choice in Assembly again this time.
According to sources out of five seats the migrant votes could have easily send two representatives of the community in Assembly had the displaced people in Habba Kadal and Bijbehara Assembly segments filled up their M Forms and exercised their right to vote in favour of a candidate of their choice.
