Early Times Report
BUDGAM, Dec 15: At least 10 families have been deprived of power supply from the last week by the local Sarpanch, as the families voted in favour of PDP candidate in the recently concluded Assembly elections in a remote village of Kutabal Jeddan in central Kashmir's Budgam district .
As per details available the residents of Dar Mohalla in Kutabal Jeddan village in Chadoora tehsil of Budgam district which consists of 10 families voted in favour of PDP on December 9 during the third phase of elections held in Budgam. During the evening the power supply was snapped by the local Sarpanch and his father who is the Deputy Sarpanch. From the last seven days these families are reeling under complete darkness and authorities seem to be unmoved . Now the villagers have approached Divisional Commissioner Kashmir who has directed the Chief Engineer PDD for his personal intervention.
"On December 8 evening local Sarpanch of our area namely Aslam Khan and his father Ahad Khan who is Deputy Sarpanch of the area snapped power line to our mohalla from the local transformer as we had given our allegiance to the opponent candidate in Charar-e-Sharief constituency and has organized a meeting as well on December 7 in this connection. From December 8th till date our mohalla has been deprived of power supply and authorities are unmoved inspite of the fact that we have brought this matter into the notice of Chief Engineer PDD, Executive Engineer PDD Budgam, SDM Chadoora and AEE PDD Chadoora," said Mohammad Maqbool Dar resident of Dar Mohalla Kutabal.
"If the Constitution gives citizens the right to support any candidate or political party , we are unable to understand why the authorities are not listening to our repeated pleas and are making us suffer at the hands of few goons who have made our lives miserable. The concerned Sarpanch and his father are threatening us of dire consequences and we live under constant fear," Maqbool added.
