PDP holds protest against erratic power supply, inflated electricity bills | | | Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Dec 15: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Kishtwar and its various units from adjoining areas including from areas like Palmar, Trigham, Malipath, Keshwan, Chatroo and other areas today held protest over erratic power supply in the District besides issuing inflated bills to consumers and demanding immediate revocation of current power curtailment schedule which exceeds more 12 hours daily. As per the details available with "Early times", large number of people led by PDP Labour Cell Kishtwar President Wasil Doolwal today blocks the road outside Deputy Commissioner Office Kishtwar for over one hour wherein the agitated people raised slogans against the Power Development Department and demanded stopping of curtailment and issuance of inflated power bills. "The department installed electronic meters in our homes with an assurance of regular supply of electricity but today we are facing almost 12 hours regular power cuts reasons better known to officials at the helms of affairs" said Wasil Doolwal while addressing the protestors outside DC Office Kishtwar. He and other speakers also alleged that large number of people in the District have complained that they are receiving inflated bills on flat rates while the student community and the business community are the worst affected due to frequent power cuts. Thereafter the a deputation of agitating people called on DC Kishtwar Mohammad Javed Khan to appraise him about the issue and public concern. After giving patience hearing to the issues raised by the people, DC Kishtwar assured the people that the matter will be looked into. He also sought details from Executive Engineer PDD Kishtwar who informed the DC Kishtwar that the schedule of the power curtailment is being prepared by the department at highest level and local TLMD Officials are only following the instruction. He said that forced curtailment directions to Kishtwar grid was also instructed from Jammu. He however added there is no issue of inflated billing in electronic metered localities and the bills are being charged as per the meter readings, while in case of non metered areas, the government has fixed the monthly rent @Rs.350/Month against previously fixed at Rs 110. He also informed DC Kishtwar about massive power theft in the District in both rural as well as urban area where consumers are using electronic gadgets illegally. After hearing PDD officials, DC Kishtwar order constitution of joint teams of PDD officials, Magistrates and police for conducting raids to check power theft. He also took strong note of reports of meter bypassing done in collaboration with PDD employees. He also directed PDD Officials to regularize all illegal connection and further directed them to register FIR against power thefts. |
