Jammu, Dec 19: A day before the election for fifth and last phase in Jammu, a BJP leader was attacked at Sunderbani while as senior Congress and BJP leaders entered into a heated argument with each other at Billawar late this evening.
Reports said that a Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) candidate from Nowshera constituency Ravinder Raina was injured when some miscreants intercepted his vehicle at Lamberi and attacked him.
Sources said that Ravinder had rushed to the area to "catch" the PDP activists who were allegedly luring voters by distributing money and liquor. "When he reached the spot, a police team was already searching the PDP vehicle. However, policemen didn't find anything," sources added.
Soon after the PDP vehicle was let go by the police Ravinder informed police that some miscreants had attacked him.
He was shifted to Sub District Hospital Nowshera from where he was referred to Government Medical College (GMC) and Hospital Jammu for specialized treatment.
The Deputy Inspector General Rajouri-Poonch AK Atri said that instructions have been passed to all police stations to alert nakas and confine the political activists whosoever is found moving with political intention till morning as campaigning for the final phase has ended.
On Ravinder Raina incident, he said that, FIR would be lodged against the miscreants once complaint is filed.
Meanwhile, the BJP candidate from Billawar constituency Nirmal Singh and Congress candidate Dr Manohar Lal Sharma exchanged heated words after the vehicle of the BJP was ransacked by some miscreants at Thara Kalwal in Billawar constituency.
Reports said that some miscreants stopped the vehicle of BJP and attacked it with hockey and sticks. Police officials rushed to the spot but the police team was intercepted by another vehicle carrying Dr Manohar Lal Sharma and his PSOs. In the meanwhile, Dr Nirmal Singh also reached the spot and both leaders entered into an heated argument. Police took both candidates and their supporters to the police post.
In yet another incident, some miscreants attacked the BJP office and torched the party vehicles at Akhnoor. The incident took place when BJP workers spotted the vehicle carrying liquor, following which they clashed with Congress workers. The entire area was cordoned off by the police. The matter was being investigated till late hours.
