Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Jan 18 : In what could termed as a 'great' act of cheating, the Business School of University of Kashmir has sent a group of 11 students pursuing Integrated Masters in Business Administration (IMBA) to do the internship for period of one month with a monetary assistance of just Rs. 4,000 per head. The irony is that the students who have been sent to New Delhi to do the internship have to manage everything, from boarding to lodging within the limited stipend of Rs. 4,000 which is nothing but an act of cheating.
"As per the University norms a student has to be paid Rs. 20,000 for doing the internship outside the state. But the Business School seems to have dropped a coin in the beggar's bowl. The students doing the internship have landed in trouble as the financial assistance provided to them is inadequate," said a parent of one of the students, while talking to Early Times. This parent asked as to how the students would meet the demands from the meagre sum at an expensive place like New Delhi. He said the amount sanctioned would have not helped the students to pursue the internship in Srinagar and not to talk of an outside place. It has also been learnt that the students have been sent to the call centres to do the internship which according to them is the highest degree of insult done to them. "We had thought that our kids are doing the internship in the renowned companies of the country but that was not to be. Instead they have been sent to the call centres in Delhi to do the internship which is an insult and after all in violation of University norms," said another parent. What is more shocking is that the son of Head of Department, Business School who is one of the students doing the internship, has been accorded a different treatment. As others have been sent to call centres, the son of the HoD has been sent to a top company in Bengaluru to do the internship. When contacted, Mohammad Ayub, placement officer, University of Kashmir said that no group of students has been sent for internship as yet. He said the two groups doing IMBA and MBA at the university will leave for outside the state to do the internship onFebruary 9 and March 1 respectively.
Professor Mufeed Ahmad, Director Business School while talking to Early Times said that his son has gone outside to spend vacations there.
He said that in the meantime his son has qualified an aptitude test and is doing some course in a company there for he is financing his son.
