Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 18 : The lackadaisical approach of Health department could be gauged from the fact that a CT scan machine which was sanctioned nearly two years ago for District Hospital Samba has been gathering dust for the past four months in absence of proper infrastructure.
Reliable sources told Early Times that in 2013 state government had sanctioned CT scan (computerized tomography) single slice, for District Hospital Samba, but surprisingly the machine reached health institution in September 2014, four months after the funds were sanctioned for its purchase. The machine has not been made operational till date due to non-availability of infrastructure and experts to operate the same.
They said that CT scan is one of the fastest and most accurate tools for examining the chest, abdomen, pelvis and proves helpful to examine trauma patients, but the officials of health department seem least interested in installing the machine in the DH Samba, which caters to thousands of patients daily.
"In absence of proper infrastructure the machine has been dumped in the corner of DH Samba", they said and added that doctors are compelled to refer the critical patients to Government Medical College Jammu in absence of the CT scan machine.
Sources alleged former health Minister, Taj Mohiuddin, did not pay any heed towards getting the machine installed in the hospital. "Focus of the ministers and administration is to place orders for new machinery and extract commission out of it. Once they receive their share they forget why the machinery was purchased," sources alleged.
Ramesh Kumar a social activist of Samba said: "The purpose for which the machine was given stands defeated as it is of no use."
He alleged that medicos and private lab operators are hand in glove with each other. "By referring patients to private laboratories doctors make easy money and get their share," he alleged.
When contacted Medical Superintendent Dr Rajinder Samyal said, "The CT scan machine would be installed within one month."
