Early Times Report Hiranagar, Mar 17: Border residents hailing from forward areas today jointly staged protest demonstration at Gopal Chak village along International Border, Sub Sector Hiranagar against loss of Rabi crops in recent rains and demanded compensation for the huge loss incurred to them in inclement weather. Farmers demanded subsidy over Kissan Credit Cards (KCCs). A border resident Puran Chand, said they (farmers) were quite hopeful of making good of their crops but standing Rabi crop got destroyed during recent incessant rains. Puran said he is unable to pay EMIs of Agricultural loan that he brought under Kissan Credit Card Scheme. Humming similar tones, Ram Paul Sharma, said their crops have been dumped but nobody comes forward to purchase their crops that affects livelihood and crop too. Sharma said government has to establish a procurement centre for appropriate rate of their crops. Ashok Sharma, Ashwin Kumar and Sunil Sharma jointly blamed that both state and union governments have ignored their suffering as nothing has been done till day to compensate the farming community. They said they have got agriculture loans under KCC scheme but due to low price and desecrated of crops, they are unable to pay EMIs. The protesters demanded compensation for their damaged crops and procurement centre in the entire state including Kathua district. |
