PHC Hartryan crying for staff, medicines | Awaits dental surgeon, two doctors for 3 yrs | | Bijay Charak

Jammu, Mar 17: Even as the state government boasts of improving healthcare in primary health Centres across the state, the PHC Hartyan of Tikri district Udhampur is craving for staff and drugs. Rajinder Singh, a resident of Hartryan informed Early Times that the PHC was established 12 years back and then the state government has sanctioned manpower of three doctors including Dental surgeon but till date all the three posts have been lying vacant for the last three years. He further said that the health institution has no laboratory services and the medicines are also found missing. Even for a minor tooth ache, one has to cover several miles on foot and then later 20 kilometer by bus to reach district hospital Udhampur. "I initially visit PHC Hartryan, but an NRHM ISM doctor , who was present in the PHC refer my daughter to PHC Tikri where but due to lack of manpower, medicines, proper infrastructure , they also shifted my daughter to District hospital Udhampur", another resident of Hartryan said. Castigating state government Singh said, "Being a poor people, we don't have money to visit several health care institutions. If government is not providing facilities, then why such PHC should not be closed", he said, adding that politician treated them as only their voters and during every election time, they came for votes but never did any work for welfare of masses. At one hand government claimed that Primary Health Centers should have 24 hour emergency services one can ask to an ISM doctor provide round the clock service. "Many times Peoples of Hartryan requested the higher authorities of health department, concerned Deputy Commissioner to fill the post of vacant doctors but no one bother the plea of poor people only assured us but later forget it", he said, adding that the PHCs Hartryan has been catering the population of more than 8 thousand souls but state government has done nothing only use for vote bank."An NRHM ISM doctor along with one paramedical staff has been rendering services in PHC Hartryan, where there is no manpower and medicines available, and for a simple test like X-Ray or ultrasound, people have to reach district hospital", he said. When contacted Block Medical Officer Tikri, Dr. Vijay Bansotra said that many times, they had requested the higher authorities for sanctioning of doctors' posts. He further said that PHC Hartryan was not an isolated case but another five PHCs, run in block Tikri were also running short of doctors. |
