Manjit Club wins volleyball title

JAMMU, Mar 25 : Shaheed Manjeet Singh Volleyball Club today registered 3-1 win against Pinto Club in the final to win the title trophy in the Manjeet Singh Memorial Volleyball Tournament, organized by District Police Poonch at Sports Stadium, here under Civic Action Programme.
The winner team awarded with a cash prize worth Rs 10,000 while Rs 5,000 cash prize given away to the runners up Pinto Club. The final was officiated by the technical penal led by Narinder Singh-(PEM). Farhat Jahangir was declared man of the match. In all, nine teams of the district took part in this two-day tournament. In the final and valedictory function, District Development Commissioner, MH Malik was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. Officiating Brigadier of 93 Bridgage CO 12 JAT, Col K Jaiswal and social activist, Taj Mir were guests of honour.
Speaking to the gathering, the DDC Poonch stressed upon youth to take active part in extracurricular activities besides studies and refrain from bad activities as the youths are the future of the nation besides assured people that such events would be organized in future too. He said that J&K Police will always help in promoting sports and cultural activities and sought the cooperation of people in achieving the result. In his address, SSP Poonch, Jatinder Singh Johar paid rich tribute to the martyrs of J&K Police and other security forces who laid down their precious lives for the cause of the nation. He said that it is due to the sacrifices of the martyrs that the peace has been restored in the state. He exhorted upon the gathering especially youth to contribute for maintaining the integrity, sovereignty and communal harmony of the great democracy of the world.
Martyr DySPManjeet Singh, the then DySPHqrs. Pooch, sacrificed his life on March 13, 2003 while maintaining the best tradition of the J&K Police-service before self for the cause of the nation.
Prominent among those who were present included Mumtaz Chodhary (ADC Pooch), Mumtaz Bhati-(CMO Pooch), Maqbool Naik (XEN PDD), Amit Kumar Gupta (ASP Pooch), Krishan Lal (retired Divisional Sports Officer), Rajinder Singh (Retired Sports Officer), Mohd Qasim (Incharge District Youth and Sports Officer), Advocate Mohd Zaman, Advocate Rajinder Singh, Prem Parkash Luthra, Nirdosh Kumar, Mohd Tariq (convener Manjeet Singh Volleyball Tournament), Pardeep Khanna, Sagar Singh (DySP), Ajay Kumar (DySP Surankote), Mohd Rafi (DySP DAR) and Rakesh Akram (SHO PS Poonch ).
