Police bosses hide behind feigned ignorance

Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 25: At a time when State Assembly is in session to ensure rule of law in the state, an Inspector of Jammu and Kashmir has let loose a reign of terror in the old city area, assaulting and hurling abuses in highly inebriated state on anyone falling his way. While people of the Panjtirthi locality are in state of panic by the terror of this drunkard Police Inspector and his local goons, astoundingly, the Police bosses who are in the know of things are trying to hide behind feigned ignorance.
Sources disclosed that this Police Inspector appears in the main market of Panjtirthi locality and indulges in unchecked goondaism; intimidating locals, passersby and shopkeepers along with a couple of goons of the area who are his accomplices. Locals divulged that the weekends are particularly frightening as the Inspector along with his goons resorts to complete vandalism in highly drunkard state and despite a police post in the vicinity; no one comes to the rescue of the residents who have to follow the dictates of the drunkard, abusive Inspector to avoid his ire.
The reluctance of the Police in acting against this Inspector which has further encouraged him to carry on with his terror and coercion can be gauged from the fact that the said Inspector had recently assaulted a Police constable who dared to stand against his anarchy. The said inspector along with his goons attacked the constable who was on a patrol duty. Despite repeated efforts by the victim constable to get an FIR registered against the Inspector, Police not only refused to book the assaulter Inspector, but filed an FIR against the victim constable.
The constable, identified as Manjit Singh then went to the court seeking justice. A competent court, taking cognizance of the complaint filed by the victim against the erring Inspector and his two accomplices identified as Karam Sharma and Babeshwar Jamwal, directed Police to register the case and investigate the matter, but no FIR has still been booked against the Inspector till date, sources disclosed. This however is not the first case in which the involvement of the said Inspector has surfaced. He was on an earlier occasion booked when he entered into a brawl with a former SSP Jammu.
Meanwhile, residents of the area, who are afraid of lodging a complaint against the Inspector, have appealed to the new IGP Jammu seeking concrete action to check the lawlessness and terror unleashed by the said Inspector who has made lives difficult for the entire locality.
