SC aspirants in BJP disappointed as no one 'eligible' this time again
8 seats for Upper House getting vacant: 4 each to BJP, PDP

ET Report
Jammu, Mar 25: As murmurs have started over possible nominations within both partners of coalition government for 8 seats in the Legislative Council getting vacant in next few days, the hopes of strong contenders from SC community appears to have dashed this time again as party's Central leadership is contemplating names on non caste, category basis. Party leaders according to sources said no name from SC has been considered eligible again for berth in LC. Notwithstanding feelers coming to this effect, various SC organisations have started building pressure on the party leadership to ensure at least a couple of people are taken aboard.
Sources said the BJP leaders have made up their mind and almost finalized names to be sent to Governor NN Vohra who will directly make the nominations for 8 seats in the Upper House. This time instead of elections, the berths getting vacant would be filled up through nominations and both PDP and BJP would get share of 4 seats each, sources said. While both the parties have a number of aspirants in queue to be accommodated as members of the Legislative Council, BJP in particular is facing pressure from various quarters to give representation to SC category in the Upper House.
Sources further said apart from hectic lobbying from inside the party, the party leaders who will soon be shortlisting the names for 4 final names are under tremendous pressure from SC bodies and organisations not to disappoint the aspirants from this community who were contenders last time when the party decided to give representation to people from Ladakh and Kashmir. The argument, sources further said given by those insisting on representation to SC is given on the premise that BJP has been able to consolidate its position in the Assembly polls in so far as the tally in numbers is concerned on account of as many as 7 members from reserved seats of SC constituencies have been bagged by BJP candidates. All 7 out of total seats went to party in Jammu during the Assembly polls this time which has made the contention of this category rather strong for LC. However, the party leadership is contemplating on somewhat different lines and may not relent to pressure, no matter it will leave some organisations disappointed.
