ET Report
Jammu, Mar 25: Jammuities are hoping that Peoples Democratic Party-Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) led coalition government would rectify the misdoings of the erstwhile Omar Abdullah led coalition government, which had ignored the Jammu officials, while giving representation to them in Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examination (JKBOPEE).
Sources told Early Times that Omar led government had ignored Jammu region by not giving representation to anyone from Jammu region in BOPEE to adjust blue eyed and influential persons.
New dispensation in the state which had recently issued an order to terminate the service of all the employees who were either re-employed or were given extension has invoked hopes among Jammuities.
Sources said the previous government had appointed a retired IAS officer and former Law Secretary GH Tantary as Chairman BOPEE last year.
"GH Tantray managed his appointment as Chairman BOPEE, just few days before the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct in the state, using his strong political influence as he was well connected to the then ruling party National Conference," sources told further adding that the appointment made by the then government was totally biased as it ignored Jammu region and moreover it preferred a retired bureaucrat to the other candidates who were serving in Higher Education department.
While making appointment of Chairman BOPEE the NC government did not care for the sentiments of Jammu region. Earlier there was a practice that if Chairman is from Jammu region then Controller used to be from Kashmir or vice versa in order to give equal regional representation but presently all the top three posts in BOPEE i.e. Chairman, Controller of Examination and Secretary have been occupied by the people from Kashmir region, sources informed.
But ever since the present dispensation of People Democratic Party-Bhartiya Janta party (PDP-BJP) led by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Syed has issued an order of terminating the services of all employees who were re-employed or given extension, in case this order is implemented in letter and spirit then the post of Chairman will fall vacant.
"It is being hoped that the incumbent government might rectify the misdoings of previous NC-Congress government by giving representation to Jammu region this time by appointing a Jammu based person as Chairman of BOPEE," they said.
Sources further informed that previous government had made a panel of three person while making an appointment of Chairman BOPEE last year which including present Chairman GH Tantray, a person from Kashmir University (both from Kashmir region) and a Professor from Jammu University (from Jammu region) but NC ignored the Jammu region and preferred a retired bureaucrat over the educationists. "Now if GH Trantary is shown the door then the next Chairman can be considered from the reaming two members in the panel list as the list remain valid for one year which is due in September 2015, sources said.
