Kathua, Mar 25: Hundred farmers of district Kathua today staged protest demonstration on Land Acquisition Bill, outside the office of DDC Kathua under the banner of Kissan Movement that was led by Babu Singh, Former Power Minister J&K.
According to press release, the Kissan movement presented a memorandum regarding their demand of revocation of Land acquisition Bill to the government of India and J&K through Deputy Commissioner.
The series of protest against Land Acquisition Bill continues in District Kathua where several NGOs, Kissan Unions and Congress party stringently oppose and raise the issue before District Administration. The drive got aggressive turn when the protest was led by former State Power Minister who raised slogan "GO BACK LAND ACQUISITION BILL".
The Kissan Movement firmly opposed the Land acquisition Bill which is under the process in Lok Sabha. The movement demanded the provision of 70% to 80% consent of farmers for the acquisition of land must be made mandatory, pre- acquired land under SEZ still underutilized must be back to the farmer, agricultural land must not be used for commercial purposes, reasonable compensation at the market rate, employment to the family of farmer etc.
