Session for Mentoring ,Networking of Women's Studies Centers held at JU | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 25: Introducing Women's Studies into the National Policy of Education, 1986, was a major break-through and, as a result, many Centers for Women's Studies have been established in the universities by the UGC and some even outside of it by the ICSSR. According to press release, currently, there are 159 Women's Studies Centers (WSCs) established in various universities and colleges in the country. Majority of these are newly established and need to consolidate their structures as well as academic content while the others are awaiting up-gradation from Phase I to II and subsequently to III. The UGC XII plan Guidelines for Development of Women's Studies in Universities and Colleges proposes efforts to strengthen the capabilities of WSCs by networking with other constituencies such that they mutually reinforce as well as synergize one another. Keeping this objective in mind a One Day Interactive Session for "Mentoring and Networking of Women's Studies Centers and Development Cells "located in Jammu was held in the Centre for Women's Studies, University of Jammu on 25th of March 2015. The Meeting was attended by the representatives from Different Campuses of University of Jammu i.e. Reasi, Bhaderwah ,Kishtwar, different colleges of Jammu i.e. Khour, R.S. Pura, Bishnah, Jindrah, Mendhar, Paloura, Gandhi Nagar etc. The program started with the presentation of recommendations of UGC, followed by the reports of the various Centers and Cells. After that small groups were formed where projects were formulated on Gender Issues. Discussion was also held on issues related to working of the Centers/Cells. It was brought to notice that the Centers have not received funds during this plan period and this is creating problems in their day to day functioning. It was decided that the CWS JU, being the Nodal Centre, will take up the matter with the UGC. |
