Early Times Report

JAMMU, Mar 31: The fundamental complaint of the people of Jammu region against the BJP is that the "CMP has murdered Shyama Prasad Mookerjee" and that it has deviated from the path late Mookerjee had charted for his followers as early as in 1953 to integrate the state fully into India. "The BJP deviated from the path to the extent that it is has adopted the same attitude towards the state flag and the state constitution which the Kashmiri parties have towards them. Mookerjee had not laid down his life in Srinagar for a regime that would create a republic of Kashmir within the Indian republic and accord legitimacy to the politics of separatism or greater autonomy being indulged by the Kashmiri parties. The BJP shamelessly abandoned its ideology and ditched the patriotic sections in Jammu and Kashmir just to grab some power. We will not forgive the BJP," the infuriated people of Jammu region, barring a few disgruntled and selfish elements here and there, have been saying since March 1. "March 1 was the black day in the political history of Jammu and Kashmir and the rest of the country. For, on that day the BJP committed crime against the country. The BJP will not win a single seat in Jammu and Kashmir if elections are held today. Its new policy towards Pakistan, Kashmir and Kashmiri Sunnis will also adversely impact the political fortunes of the BJP across the country and it would not win even hundred seats if general elections are held today. Narendra Modi and his BJP have fallen from grace," they have also been sating.
The people of Jammu region and others in the state, including an overwhelming majority of BJP cadres and supporters, who are opposed to the politics of separatism and communalism and stand for their full merger with India would have appreciated the BJP had it joined the government on the developmental agenda and not agreed to any such divisive and unsettling proposal as "national reconciliation". By conceding the demand that it would facilitate talks among all the "stakeholders", including Pakistan and the Hurriyat Conference, the BJP only vindicated those in Kashmir who never considered Jammu and Kashmir an integral part of India and who vouch for "Kashmiriyat, which is intolerant, anti-minorities and exclusivist and which resulted in the radicalization of Kashmir and led to the rise of a situation that compelled the minorities, including Kashmiri Pandits, Sikhs, Buddhists and Christians, to quit their homes and hearths and become refugees in their own country in early 1990". But more than that, the CMP "insulted the people of Jammu region and Ladakh by not including any reference to the highly tolerant, liberal and all accommodating Dogriyat and Ladakhiat and by reassuring them that the BJP would make special efforts to promote the Dogriyat and Ladakhiat". This is the general view in Jammu region and the refugee camps. Very importantly, the people of Jammu region are holding the RSS equally responsible for what has been happening in the state.
The critics of the BJP and the so-called CMP have been saying many other things and all are aimed at exposing what they term as "fake nationalist BJP". They are openly saying that "they are eagerly waiting for an opportunity to teach the BJP a lesson". One can only hope and pray that good sense would finally prevail and the BJP would undo the wrongs it has been committing in Jammu and Kashmir since October 2014. It would commit another blunder if it continues to behave like the irresponsible manner it has been conducting itself to pander to a constituency that is against India and for Pakistan. If it continues to behave in the fashion it has been behaving since months now, it would be treated like the people of India treated the Congress arty in 2014. There should be no doubt about it.
