Early Times Report

Kishtwar, July 3: Nearly 47% posts of lecturer and master grade teachers stand vacant in Kishtwar district as government has not initiated any process to fill up these posts.
It is not that only posts of teaching staff are vacant, but many schools lack infrastructure as well. For example, at high school Nagbatna, only three rooms are available for 160 students.
There are 15 higher secondary schools (HSS) and one DIET in Kishtwar in which 212 posts of lecturers have been sanctioned. Out of the 212 posts, 93 are vacant.
The worst affected are HSS. At HSS Sounder, out 14 sanctioned lecturer posts, only three lecturers are available while 11 posts are vacant.
Similarly, in HSS Warwan, all 11 posts of lecturers stand unfilled. At HSS Marwah, out of 11 sanctioned posts of lecturer, only four are available.
All the three HSS-Sounder, Warwan and Marwah-fall in remote areas of the district and have no road connectivity. In case there is any road connectivity, the roads remain closed for almost six to eights months because of snowfall. Also, these areas are without electricity and communication.
Even though HSS Mughal Maidan is situated just 25 km from Kishtwar town, it's no different than other schools. There are 10 posts of lecturers vacant against the sanctioned 14 posts.
The number of vacant posts in other schools goes like this: HSS Shirodh (9), HSS Chatroo, HSS Binoon, HSS Filler, HSS Dachhan (7 each), HSS Kishtwar (2), HSS Nagsini (6), HSS Padder (3), HSS Palmar (6), and HSS Sarthal (2).
The DIET Kishtwar is the only institution with no vacant post while HSS boys Kishtwar has only one post of lecturer vacant against the sanctioned strength of 23 posts.
Likewise, there are 156 middle schools, high schools and HSS in Kishtwar where 585 posts of master grade teachers are sanctioned and out of them 292 are vacant. High School Kither, one of the remotest areas of the state, tops the list of vacant posts with six, while in other schools four or five posts of master grade teachers are vacant.
Many educationists while talking to Early Times blamed JKSSRB and JKPSC for slow recruitment process. Besides, political influence over posting of teachers, lecturers and masters is the main cause of deteriorating education system not only in Kishtwar but in entire state.
