Akshay Azad Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 3: The Bharitya Janta Party (BJP) is reportedly perturbed over the support extended by common people, shopkeepers, businessmen and other sections of Jammu to the Bandh call given by AIIMS Coordination Committee (AIIMSCC). Sources informed Early Times that in an effort to fail the bandh call given for establishment of separate AIIMS in Jammu, MLA West Satpal Sharma along with some party workers, on Monday morning visited Talab Tillo area and appealed the shopkeepers to open their shops. "In lane number 15, he appealed shopkeepers to open their shops but shopkeepers refused to relent and asked him as "Who will pay the damage", sources said. They informed that MLA East Rajesh Gupta accompanied by a half dozen workers and nearly a dozen police personnel, also made a round of Upper Gumat, Raghunath Bazar area and made same appeal to open the business establishments. "To please MLA, some shopkeepers reportedly opened the shutters of their shops but for a brief period and when he moved a few steps forwards, the shutters once again came down", sources said. Meanwhile the BJP leader, Yudhveer Sethi also paid visit to Purani Mandi area-erstwhile BJP hub- but had to return even without any assurance as shopkeepers, who once were strong supporters of BJP, had refused to listen his appeals. Criticizing the attitude of BJP MLAs, source said that these BJP leaders, who once called themselves as champions of Jammu cause have virtually turned into betrayers of Jammu. "It unequivocally shows that BJP leaders were power hungry and they had nothing to do with Jammu cause as they had been pretending before coming to power", they said. |
