| 'Madhav, Jaitley the real villains, local BJP leaders their slaves' | | Shifting of AIIMS to Kashmir | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 3: The AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC) agitation has now become a people's movement. Today on the fourth day of the bandh, many in the government believed that the bandh will lose its appeal and it may start petering away. BJP ministers Chaudhary Lal Singh, Sukhnandan Chsudhary and Bali Bhagat were among the foremost in the present BJP-PDP government to nourish such hopes. That they were mere hopes and the people's support to the AIIMS movement is only growing with each passing day was glaringly manifest to them when they were plainly told by the shopkeepers whom they tried to persuade to open their shops.
"Even if you give us lakhs of rupees we will not open our shops," a supporter of the AIIMS CC said. "We know it very well that you BJP leaders lie everyday. And we also know they are nobody in the BJP. The people who decide the fate of people of Jammu region in this party are Ram Madhav (RSS ideologue, BJP national general secretary and one of the architects of the sinister agenda of alliance) and Arun Jaitley (Union Finance Minister)," he further said.
Such expressions from common people in the streets in Jammu sum up the direction of the people's anger. The BJP MLAs and ministers are powerless and slavish entities who can do anything to please their masters in Delhi. Ram Madhav and Arun Jaitley are emerging in the common man's mind as real "enemies" of the people of Jammu region who offered a massive mandate in Jammu for BJP on a plate to the PDP.
"I heard Arun Jaitley during the Amarnath Land Agitation appealing to the people of Jammu to channelize their anger to give a huge political mandate to the BJP in case the people of Jammu region want their discrimination to be redressed. And when people gave them the mandate, they indulged in worse type of discrimination with Jammu region. The AIIMS to Kashmir is the glaring example," said Rohit Jasrotia, a university student.
The discourse in the streets is gradually changing. People consider the local BJP leaders as "slaves" and Arun Jaitley and Ram Madhav as "real villains" responsible for the agenda of alliance in which AIIMS was granted to Kashmir. It is time for Jaitley and Madhav to review their stand on the AIIMS and agenda of alliance taking into consideration the hurt sentiments of people of Jammu region. To continue to pursue the policy they have been pursuing for many months now would create a difficult situation for them not only in Jammu region but also in the rest of the country. |
