Shattered Dreams:
8/31/2015 11:49:13 PM
Principal GCW refuses to honor letter from DDC Udh

Ashwani Sharma

Early Times Report

Udhampur, Aug 31: In violation to the tall claims of right to education to younger India and women empowerment, the Govt College for Women (GCW) Udhampur allegedly refused to give admission to a student for her only fault of clearing her 12th (SSC) from National Institute of Open School (NIOS) and shattered her dream of attaining higher education.
The GCW management's decision has given a nightmarish experience to the girl student Chetna Sharma who blamed the college Administration about mental agony and harassment to her as the decision was communicated to her. She said that college refused to accommodate her just because she holds an pass out certificate from National Institute of Open School (NIOS).
Meantime the father of the aggrieved girl also has said that not only the girl but the whole family got disturbed due to the weird decision from college management i.e. to deny a student of her rights
Recalling his ordeal, he recalled when they met with the Principal GCW Udhampur Kuldeep Singh Koushal, they were briefly told that they (College authorities) need to get these documents verified for their authentication.
The girl whose dream got shattered said that she applied for admission under the decision taken in the meeting held by the standing committee held on 10/09/.2012 vide order no 10 which clearly states the students having passed their 12th from National Institute of Open School (NIOS) are eligible to seek admission in Undergraduate courses.
The parents of girl even have pursued her case in front of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Shahid Iqbal who also has forward a letter in this regard so that the girl can pursue her education but principal of college refused to honor the letter with a lame excuse stating we don't accept the letters by hand and get through properly channel then it will only be entertained.
The aggrieved girl and her parents got another chilling experience when the principal of college refused to admit the girl when her father managed to attain a letter directly by Registrar academics to get her admitted using his own resources.
GCW Principal stated that Chetna Sharma is not eligible to seek admission in science stream in the undergraduate course by stating she has not attained the requisite minimum percentage of cut off merit. However the same was contradicted by the father who claimed that many students seeking admission have not attained the required percentage.
When contacted Principal GCW Udhampur Kuldeep Singh initially tried to evade the issue but when probed he shunning all ethics of courtesy and mannerism used crude words said Do whatever you want to do and write as you like.
"This is my college and I will do as I like to, he said and dropped the call.
