Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 20: In a bid to tackle the shortage of staff in Traffic wing of the police department, the police headquarters has taken a major decision in this regard as it has decided to increase the strength of traffic police personnel in almost every district of the state. In first such initiative, as many as 366 police personnel have been shifted from Kashmir and Jammu zones to Traffic wing under an Order No. 3452. After sending these police personnel to traffic wing, the authorities have ordered their postings in traffic wing of the department in each district so that the traffic could be regulated efficiently in every district. While the maximum number of jawans has been sent to Srinagar district which got 82 police personnel for the traffic wing, the Jammu district got 40 additional jawans to further reinforce the traffic wing. Ramban district got a share of 24 jawans while Sopore district also received equal number of jawans. The number of jawans sent to traffic wing of other districts including Poonch, Handwara, Shopian, Rajouri, Udhampur, Pulwama, Anantnag, Ganderbal, Awantipora, Kupwara, Kathua, Baramulla, Doda, Samba, Reasi, Kishtwar, Leh, Bandipora, Budgam and Kargil stood at 18, 17, 15, 14, 14, 13, 12, 12, 10, 9, 9, 9, 7, 6, 6, 6, 5, 3, 3 and 1respectively. The deteriorating traffic scenario with each passing day has led to a chaotic situation roads which are witnessing an unprecedented increase of accidents mainly due to non-adherence of traffic rules. As the number of traffic cops was insufficient to check the habitual traffic rules offenders, the menace was literally unstoppable. It is pertinent to mention here that the decision to augment the traffic wing in such a large scale has been done for the very first time. |
