Mirwaiz 'ate up' Rs 1 Cr meant for flood victims
Allies demand white paper

srinagar, Nov 20: Chairman of moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is alleged to have misappropriated an amount of Rs 1 Cr meant for flood victims.
Sources told Early Times that the constituents have demanded a white paper from Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
"After floods Mirwaiz Umar Farooq received funds from different corners but till today he hasn't provided any blue-print to allies," an insider privy to development said.
He said that three senior leaders have demanded a white paper from the chairman and have asked him to let them know how much Hurriyat Conference as collected for flood victims.
Sources said the Mirwaiz had assured his allies that he will respond to their concerns in the meeting on Thursday but the meeting got postponed. "The issue of flood relief was slated to be discussed on Thursday but due to unknown reasons Mirwaiz Umar Farooq postponed the proposed meeting on Thursday," they revealed.
"Under the garb of constructing few homes Mirwaiz is trying to embezzle a huge amount which we will not let happen," a senior leader confirming the development said.
They said that post floods Mirwaiz Umar Farooq collected over Rs 2 Cr for victims through Dar-ul-Khair', a charity headed by Mirwaiz and run by his party, Awami Action Committee.
Apart from this, Mirwaiz had collected funds through different channels on Hurriyat platform but hasn't reveled anything before his allies.
Pertinently, after floods Mirwaiz announced 'Akah Akis' initiative and announced to construct 100 homes for flood victims.
"Each house would be built on 600 square feet land with two rooms, a kitchen and a bathroom. A cost on a single house was calculated as (approx) Rs 5.20 lakh," Mirwaiz had promised.
