Early Times Report jammu, Nov 20: In a major embarrassment to Dinesh Gupta, Chairman of Citizen's Cooperative Bank Ltd, today's scheduled valedictory function of Cooperative Week in the bank premises was cancelled following refusal of the office of Registrar Cooperative Societies to join the programme. According to the sources, decision to cancel the function was taken late last night despite finalization of all arrangements as the Registrar Cooperative Society as well as Minister for Cooperative refused to attend the programme, which was being organized by the bank. Earlier, the mega valedictory function of Cooperative Week was scheduled to be organized by the bank, which had been taken over by the Registrar Cooperative Society by appointing an administrator after superseding the incumbent Board of Directors, two months back. However, sources added, the High Court stay on Registrar's decision and restoring of Board of Directors, changed that situation, under which Dinesh Gupta once again became Chairman of the bank. In a bid to utilize this opportunity for becoming close to Registrar as well as the Minister for Cooperative, sources said that Dinesh Gupta and his team were trying its best to make the valedictory function a grand success. As the Registrar office was apprehensive of misusing the function for personal agenda of Dinesh Gupta, sources said that the Registrar took up the matter with Minister, who also agreed not to attend the programme. After remaining fail to please Registrar and the Cooperative Minister, sources said that Dinesh Gupta also tried to approach Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who even refused to meet him. Speaker Kavinder Gupta and some other Ministers of both BJP and PDP also refused to attend the valedictory function by CCBL as they fear that bad and corrupt reputation of Dinesh Gupta may also harm their public image, sources explained. The non availability of a suitable chief guest finally forced the CCBL to cancel the scheduled valedictory function and thus resulting into big embarrassment to Dinesh Gupta and his team. |
