'BJP high command giving undue importance to outsiders'

Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 20: The separatist turned mainstream politician Sajad Gani Lone getting Shayma Prasad Mookerjee award recently has not gone well with the BJP leaders in Jammu and Kashmir as most of them believe that party high command and RSS are giving "undue importance" to outsiders.
The organizers of India Ideas Conclave while conferring the Dr S P Mookerjee Award, founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh (which later evolved into BJP) said Sajad Lone was awarded for his transformation from separatist-to-mainstream politician and participating in the democratic process. "As a Minister of J&K Government, he has set an example for those concerned with the well being and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir, and has also shown that democracy, peace and development are mutually complementary," the organizers said.
Interestingly, the organizers had not invited any of the BJP Ministers from the State to attend the conclave only one Kashmiri BJP leader was among the invitees. "It's unfortunate that despite we giving our blood for the party we were ignored," said a BJP leader.
He said that BJP high command giving "undue importance" to Sajad Lone is not a good sign. "Party should first acknowledge the contribution of its own leaders and then shower praises on outsiders," the leader added.
He said organizers added "insult to their injuries" by not inviting any of the prominent faces of the party from Jammu and Kashmir for the India Ideas Conclave held at Goa.
Sources revealed that BJP leaders from Jammu and Kashmir have failed to build a rapport with the Central leadership and have remained confined to their shells after assuming power. "Another factor for BJP leaders not being invited could be that most BJP leaders in JK believe that they are the tallest among the lot. Despite party high command appointing Dr Nirmal Singh as Deputy Chief Minister none of the BJP leaders have recognized him as a leader," they said. "Internal differences within the State unit of BJP have added to the confusion."
An insider while talking to Early Times said, "Sajad was given the prestigious award to assure him that RSS and BJP have owned him and in future he could become the face of BJP in Kashmir as the party is making desperate attempts to make inroads into the Valley where it failed to open its account in the 2014 Assembly elections."
"Choosing Sajad for the award is a clear message to separatists that people who join the national mainstream are welcome and people who don't fall in the line would be dealt with an iron fist," the insider added.
He claimed that BJP is trying to groom Sajad to end the leadership crisis in BJP in Jammu and Kashmir. "BJP knows it very well that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi gets one more term there is every possibility of BJP retaining power in 2020 in JK and at that point of time Sajad could prove very handy," the insider added.
