Anantnag, Dec 1: BJP's meeting conveyed at Dak Banglow Khanabal on Tuesday witnessed ruckus after workers heckled senior party leader and Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Sofi Yousuf while he was announcing the names of newly elected constituency in-charges.
Witnesses told Early Times that BJP workers (booth presidents) turned at the venue to elect constituency In-charges through ballot. Party general secretary Narinder Singh was chief guest and was supposed to supervise the process.
They said that almost all the leaders from Anantnag and Kulgam districts mainly those who contested last assembly elections on BJP ticket were too present in the meeting.
Reports said that till the arrival of Party general secretary Narinder Singh everything was going on peacefully, however his meeting with MLC Sofi Yousf inside a separate room attached with the main hall of Dak Bungalow irked the party workers. "Sofi asked Mr Narinder Singh to enter the room attached with the main hall. Inside we felt Sofi managed to get approval of general sectary for appointment of his men in district body which is against the democracy and BJP's constitution as it was supposed to elect the body democratically," Khurshid Ahmad Malik, BJP Leader, who contested from Kokernag constituency on BJP ticket told Early Times. He said that as soon as MLC Sofi started announcing the names, the workers got infuriated and disrupted the meeting as it was totally against the essence of BJP's constitution. Workers raised slogans against Sofi, clashed with security guards and disrupted the meeting, witnesses said. They accused sofi of minting from party leaders. "He (Sofi) is minting money from people. Money is being paid for the posts," shouted the workers
"Booth presidents who were elected democratically had come to elect constituency presidents and later the elected constituency presidents were supposed to elect District president and other party's body structure but all went against the norms and rules," South Kashmir president, Ghulam Nabi Dar said, adding Sofi announced the names among which few don't have even worked for the party. He accused MLC Sofi of working against party and breaching discipline. "I am not being taken into confidence in any matter even as a sarpanch of my area. He is allotting workers to some blue-eyed people from his CDF fund and workers who work on ground are being deprived. They suspect him (Sofi) of minting money from these blue-eyed people," he added.
However, Sofi at the venue termed the disruption of meeting handiwork of few anti-party elements.
