Mobile internet service remains suspended in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 17: Professionals, including media persons and doctors continued to suffer as mobile internet service of different cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), remained suspended for the fourth day today in the Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar.Mobile internet service of all companies went off the air for security reasons as the authorities had apprehension that the service could be used to organise protests against the killing of five civilians in the frontier district of Kupwara.However, suspension of the service evoked widespread condemnation as it has affected lakhs of users.The authorities have appealed to people not to pay heed to any rumours spread by some miscreants and people having vested interests.Suspension of the internet service has badly affected students, doctors and other professionals besides media persons in the valley, where similar restrictions were imposed in the past also.
