| Sajad Lone makes special appearance | | Resignation drama? | |  Attends meeting chaired by CM as Social Welfare Minister

Srinagar, Apr 17: Sajad Gani Lone surprised everyone on Saturday by attending a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti at Kupwara.
An official spokesman in a communiqué said, besides others meeting was attended by the Social Welfare Minister Sajad Gani Lone.
Pertinently, soon after Mehbooba Mufti took oath as the 13th Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on April 4, Sajad Lone, who heads People Conference, tendered his resignation two days after the oath ceremony as he was "upset" over what he termed as "insignificant portfolio" being given to him.
After submitting his resignation he did not attend the first cabinet meeting chaired by Mehbooba Mufti. He went to New Delhi and spent a few days in national capital where he reportedly met his "friend" the BJP senior leader Ram Madhav, party's pointman for JK, and requested him to fix his meeting with the BJP President Amit Shah and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi but sources said, that meeting didn't materialize.
Insiders revealed that a top BJP leader called the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and requested her not to accept Sajad's resignation. "Ram Madhav and other BJP leaders persuaded Sajad to reconsider his decision and assured him that he would be given a plum ministry when the first cabinet reshuffle takes place," they added.
A politician while commenting on Sajad's resignation said, "The resignation drama enacted by Sajad has not served any purpose. It has proved that more than an ally he is a stooge of BJP which after using him is making him dance to their tunes."
Sources said, "Sajad by tendering his resignation had tried to build pressure on the BJP high command but his move back fired and he had to eat a humble pie."
It's in place to mention here when Sajad had visited New Delhi in 2014 ahead of Assembly polls he met the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and described him as his "elder brother" and later vowed to support the BJP. Sajad was inducted as Animal Husbandry Minister from the BJP quota in the government led by late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. At that point of time also Sajad had expressed reservation and had demanded that he be given some other ministry but he did not resign. This time around Sources said,Sajad was expecting that he would be given Health ministry but BJP kept him content with Social welfare ministry.
A close aide of Sajad Lone said, " He (Sajad) had to attend the meeting as the killings took place in his constituency and presence of the local MLA was must in the meeting chaired by the Chief Minister."
On being told that he (Sajad) attended the meeting as Social welfare Minister he said, "Sajad had tendered his resignation but it was not accepted. He would continue to be the Minister of Social Welfare and ARI and Trainings till his resignation is accepted."
The aide refused to comment on whether, Sajda would join the office or not. "Please wait and watch and don't put words in my mouth." |
