Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 17: In yet another case of declaring results in the Department of Commerce, University of Jammu belatedly has once again proved the ineffectiveness of Controller of Examination JU to exercise complete control over the time schedule of declaring results in the University within the fixed time schedule as per standing norms with Vice Chancellor, who guardian of the University has failed to streamline the system despite lapse of over one being the faculty member of Commerce Department taking the directives of Chancellor casually.
The sources informed that it may sound strange but it is true that ten faculty members of the Department of Commerce took six months to evaluate the answer sheets of 56 fourth Semester students which smacks enough of sorry state of affairs prevailing in the Department of Commerce and the sordid picture of other various Departments existing in the JU on this front can well be visualized. The startling revelation has been made in reply to a RTI query in which the University has stated that a total of 56 candidates appeared in the fourth Semester examination held on May-2015. The declaration of result was made on 05-11-2015 which divulges that the evaluation process consumed six long months which speaks of lethargy and recklessness on the part of controlling authority and is alarming situation flouting the directive of Chancellor JU and Education Minister with impunity.
While recapitulating the decision of the 78th meeting of University Council held last year, the sources informed that the Chancellor and Education Minister,inter-alia, underlined the vital importance of time bound declaration of result of UG and PG examinations and stressed upon the need to further streamline processes for declaration of results within one month of the examinations process. The sources told that conducting examination and declaring result is the basic job of University administration which ought to be done in a spontaneous manner needing no directions of the higher authorities, but despite decisions of the University Council took last year, the Controller of Examination, who is under the direct control of Vice Chancellor has utterly failed to implement the decision of the University Council in spite of lapse of over one year.
Sources further informed that there are 10 faculty members in PG Department of Commerce with break up as 5 Assistant Professors, 1 Associate Professor and 4 Professors and If go by the student-teacher ratio it is very simple that a faculty member has to evaluate the answer scripts of just six students. By this calculation, the evaluation job must be completed easily within a week's time. But the things seem to be moving in a wrong direction and that too in the department of VC, Prof R D Sharma," they added.
