Woollens still out as winds continue' though Sun appears in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 26: People continued to wear woollen cloths due to winds, though Sun was out today in the Kashmir valley, where the minimum temperature remained below normal, despite dry weather.A Met department Spokesman said here this afternoon that weather will remain dry in Jammu and Kashmir during the next six days, though for some time, sky would be partly cloudy. Border town of Kargil in Ladakh recorded the lowest 0.5 degree Celsius minimum temperature in the region, followed by the world famous ski resort of Gulmarg in Kashmir valley, where the minimum temperature was 2.4 degrees, still about two notches below normal.
The maximum temperature at the famed ski resort yesterday was 8.6 degrees, 4.4 notches below normal. He said the minimum temperature at Kargil witnessed further drop and settled at 0.5 degrees against yesterday's 1.5 degrees. However, at Leh, also in Ladakh region, witnessed major improvement. Against minus 0.7 degrees, the minimum temperature was 5.4 degrees, he said.Mainly clear sky was predicted at Leh, where the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 15 degrees, and 2 degree respectively during the next 24 hours. Night remained relatively cold as the minimum temperature in the summer capital Srinagar was 6.9 degrees, still more than two notches below normal. Though sun was out since this morning, people continued to wear woollen due to winds.
The Met spokesman said sky would be mainly clear and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 23 degrees and 7 degrees, again below normal during the next 24 hours in the city, where frequent traffic jam has affected normal life.There was major improvement at Pahalgam, base camp of holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, where the annual pilgrimage will commence from July 2.
Against yesterday's 1.4 degrees minimum temperature, it was 3.3 degrees, still a notch below normal. However, the maximum temperature was two notches below normal resulting in melting of snow on upper reaches, resulting water level in increase in water bodies, including river Lidder passing through Pahalgam. The minimum temperature at Qazigund, Kokernag and Kupwara also remained below normal, though it recorded increase against yesterday.
