19 months on, Saddal fails to become 'smart'

Jammu, Apr 26: Promises made by state government as well as Union Government to Saddal homeless families that the village will be developed as Smart village but the lapse of nineteen months the families are yet to be permanent rehabilitated.
Romesh Singh, Sarpanch of Panjar said that nearly six thousand peoples comprising 85 families of Saddal village were affected after the entire village got buried under landslides in September, 2014, in which 40 peoples are buried alive and bodies of four persons are yet to be traced.
"Minister of State in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh in his visits announced that Saddal village will be developed as the first 'smart village' of Jammu and Kashmir within 18 months having all facilities which are available in smart village and the first phase of smart village project which will be completed by mid 2016 but nothing has happened in the last nineteen months", Sarpanch said, adding that till date relief provided by government to landslide affected families, Rs. 75000 given to those families whose houses fully damaged and Rs. 3800 to those families whose houses are partially damaged.
They further said that around 45 families had placed in hutments constructed by disaster management at railway station Udhampur and rest of other affected families are leading a miserable life still looking to government for help for their permanent rehabilitation.
Ashok Kumar another resident of Panjar said that those families were shifted at railway station, now their condition of living was not good they cook food under open sky, and in rainy season they shift earthen stoves to small compartments allotted to them, causing serious health problems to them.
"In the last nineteen months the government has provided kerosene oil to these affected families three times. However, the government had announced to provide free ration to all affected families for six months, but they got only three months," Ashok said.
