Government in a recent high level government meet cautioned about the threat of radicalisation due to the growing rate of unemployment in the state.
According to the official documents in possession of Early Times, the government in its recent survey has found that the number of jobless youth in the state is witnessing a serious surge with numbers almost doubling in five years. Earlier, the figures had claimed number of jobless youth as six lakh. "The number is much higher than this at present. No less than 12- 13 lakh youth of the state are jobless. You cannot claim any work as a job which pays you meagre 2-3 thousand rupees a month- we have found, at least two lakh educated youth working on mearge amount of Rs 150 a day," says an official of the Employment department.
He adds that the government has found that among educated unemployed youth in J&K, 54.9 percent youth are from rural areas while the remaining are from urban areas.

"We can understand that if a matric pass doesn't find a job but the post graduates with degrees in sciences and humanities sitting idle is something that can have a disastrous impact on society during the times to come," says a senior official who was part of the committee that conducted the survey of the educated jobless youth in J&K. The figures reveal that in valley there are more than 29034 graduates who are unemployed and in Jammu province the number of jobless graduates is 12426. The details inform that Kashmir division has 46703 people jobless who have passed 10+2 in various streams while as in Jammu the number is 27212. The survey details inform further that more than four thousand five hundred registered degree holders of engineering jobless in the state are yet to find their livelihood while as the number of unemployed diploma holders is more than eight thousand five hundred.
Jobless ITI trained youth are five thousand five hundred in Jammu and Kashmir. The number is enough to prick the balloon of government.
