Early Times Report Jammu, June 28: While army personnel today tried to fence a large chunk of land belonging to about 22 farmers at Bansultan in Miran Sahib area, police made timely intervention and stopped them from doing so. Official sources said some army officers and jawans arrived in Bansultan village in the morning and started fencing the area. Some locals also reached the spot and asked army not to fence the area. After someone brought the matter to their notice, cops from Miran Sahib police station rushed to the spot and prevented army from fencing the area, the sources added. "Both parties claim that the land belongs to them. We have forwarded the matter to concerned Sub Divisional Magistrate, who will further dispose it of," said a police official. Villagers said the court had directed civil administration to complete formalities and only then army could acquire the land. "Several kanals of land belonging to 22 farmers of the area was to be given to army, but due to the lackadaisical approach of civil administration nothing had been done in this case so far. When contacted, SHO, Miran Sahib, Hilal Azhar said army went to the village and tried to acquire the land, but police stopped the work. When contacted, PRO Defence ,Jammu, was not aware about the incident. "I don't know anything about the incident", he added. |
