Early Times Report

Jammu, June 28: Unmindful of the potential risk to the lives of the human being as well as the animals with the installation of two electric transformers in open at the Bus Stand in Sunderbani town of District Rajouri but the Power Development Department (PDD) has been acting as mute spectator and waiting for any misadventure to be happened.
Sources told Early Times that the two electric transformers have been installed at Bus Stand Sunderbani at very low height and that too without enclosure for safety from preventing the movement of animals and human beings.
"PDD has flouted all its norms in installation of these two electric transformers, the main transformer has been installed on the ground while the other has been installed on two electric poles nearly 3-4 feet from the ground level," they alleged further, adding that despite many representations with the concerned department for putting safety measures around the transformers so that human lives may not put into risk.
Interestingly, these two transformers are surrounded with old used tyres of vehicles and had caught fire due to sparking in the transformers on many occasions which caused damage to the transformers and posed risk to the humans and animals while passing the area, they added. "Despite knowing the importance of this transformer distribution point that the whole supply of power to the town is supplied through these transformers, the PDD not learning lesson from past incidents, has done nothing to shift these transformers to some safe place or provide enclosures to the installation point," they informed.
They further said that more shocking thing is that the main cables attached with transformers are naked and fuse points are just few feet in height. As per rules the main the cables should insulated and enclosure should be installed to prevent entry of any foreign object but sources alleged that department has deliberately installed in low height for their convenience to fix fuse repair.
