Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 23: No decision has been yet taken by the state government regarding bringing the PM package employees back to Jammu in view of the situation in the Valley and constant protests and strike which entered 15th day today after the killing of Hizbul militant Burhan Wani on July 8 in an encounter at Kokernag area of South Kashmir.
Following the killing of Hizbul Commander in an encounter with security forces the violence gripped the entire Kashmir Valley and the migrant camps housing the PM package employees were also targeted by the violent mob that pelted stones on them at number of occasions creating fear psychosis among the inmates of these transit camps.
The situation turned so grave at Haal transit camp in Pulwama district of South Kashmir where over 150 families of package employees were putting that some of them for the safety of their lives migrated to Zeshta Devi shrine Srinagar during the night of July 11 where from they approached the higher ups in both Central and State governments as well as media persons pleading for safe evacuation of their brethren and sisters from Haal Camp.
Later all package employees of the camp migrated to Jammu and this was followed by the inmates of transit camps of Vessu and Mattan in Anantnag district of South Kashmir and Sheikhpora in Central Kashmir district of Badgam. Since then these employees are on protest in front of Relief Commissioner's Office demanding their posting be made in camp offices and schools at Jammu and they be paid salaries here as situation is not conducive for their working in Kashmir Valley which is under the grip of violence for a fortnight now.
Apprehending trouble these employees say that they can't be safe in Kashmir and the future of their children has also been affected due to lack of schooling facilities in view of present unrest in Kashmir.
These employees in one voice have made it clear that they will not return under any condition to Valley in view of their past six years experience there and demanded disbursement of their past salaries.
However the Government can't take any decision in haste and as per official sources posting these employees to Jammu at a time when the Central government was thinking on the formula of rehabilitating the displaced Pandits back in Valley will be a setback to such a move and also weaken government stand on the issue. Besides such a move will strengthen the separatist leadership in the Valley which at no time government wanted to do.
Sources said that Government can strengthen the security round the transit camps to ensure that no package employee is harmed and they feel totally secure in Valley but at no stage will it allow the migration of these employees to Jammu as it will harm the national cause.
This was also made clear by Deputy Chief Minister recently while talking to various delegations of these employees as well as members of displaced community saying that government will take care of their security and safety but it will not allow any displacement of these employees from Valley as it will harm the national cause in the long run. These employees have however approached the Union Government including Prime Minster Narendra Modi and Home Minister, Rajnath Singh seeking their intervention in the matter also.
