9/15/2016 10:38:20 PM
Early Times Report

Udhampur, Sept 15: Rusted and damaged electric poles carrying live wires are posing danger to people at different places in the Udhampur city while some poles are in a dangerous position and may fall anytime due to heavy corrosion in the bottom in some busy areas causing an emergency situation but authorities are in slumber.
A case in point is some poles including one at Hospital Road. The reason the pole is heavily corroded but still carries live wires and is likely to break anytime causing unnatural hazard.
According to some locals they always fear that the electric pole can play havoc during rains but authorities seemed least bothered about it.
While talking to Early Times, some residents of hospital road locality namely Barun Bagat, Rajinder, Madan Lal, Barat Chowdery, Anjeev and Ashok Kumar told that they have registered many complains to PDD Department Head Office Udhampur in regard to replace these damaged poles but all in vain.
The said that PDD officials need to check the condition of electric poles regularly, particularly before and after monsoon ironically it never happens. The staff should replace damaged poles and provide adequate support to them (damaged ones) before these spell danger," they added.
Residents from other localities too have expressed concerns over similar kind of danger saying the heavily damaged electric poles near their homes are a constant threat. They satirically asked if the department is waiting for any eventuality to happen only than it would replaced the electricity poles.
