'Confused' Kashmiri politicians lose the way | | | Early Times Report jammu, Sept 15: The Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti taking a firm stand against the separatists and the miscreants has shaken mainstream politicians, who have gone into hiding since the day unrest broke out in Kashmir. A few politicians have issued statements but they have been invisible on the ground and have made no effort to reach out to the common people. One of the senior PDP leaders and Member Parliament from Srinagar, Tariq Hamid Karra, tendering his resignation from PDP and Parliament, cannot be considered as a beginning of the dissent within PDP as the fact of the matter is that Karra had been looking for excuses for a longtime to say goodbye to PDP. "Kara has been opposing the PDP-BJP alliance from the very first day. He left no stone unturned to ensure that he gets inducted into the council of ministers. After the death of the former Chief Minister late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, he (Karra) stayed with Mehbooba Mufti with a hope that he would be inducted into the cabinet but his hopes and expectations were dashed," an analyst toldEarly Times. He said like Karra, another senior PDP leader and MP from north Kashmir Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, had recently suggested that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti should say goodbye to BJP as both the parties have failed to implement the Agenda of Alliance (AoA). "Despite PDP senior leaders issuing provocative statements the Chief Minister has remained firm on her stand and has taken the bull by its horns by not succumbing to the pressure built by the separatists and other Pakistani agents," the analyst added. He said, "Senior PDP leaders after the death of late Mufti Mohd. Sayeed were expecting that they would get the bigger roles within the party and the government but Mehbooba as the party president cut them to size." A Kashmir watcher said, "It seems Karra tendered his resignation to save himself from further humiliation as he was sidelined by the PDP leadership for issuing statements against the PDP-BJP government. He (Karra) had become a non-entity. Mehbooba Mufti as PDP President and as Chief Minister has proved to be a tough administrator and has crushed those who wanted to toe their own line rather than following the directives of the party. Leaders like Karra, who used to project themselves as tall leaders, failed to play any role to diffuse the present crisis in Kashmir and their tallness stands exposed." He said that in coming days a few more dissidents may follow Karra to build pressure on Mehbooba Mufti to call it off a day. "It seems Mehbooba has made up her mind to ensure that peace is restored in the Valley and resignations of leaders like Karra or others would hardly make any difference," the Kashmir watcher added. |
