Bovine smugglers, drugs mafia call shots | 'Dabang Police officer pays no heed | | ' Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 15: Notwithstanding tall claims of police to start a campaign against drug mafia in Jammu region, supply of drugs is going unabated in border areas of Jammu district thanks to the approach being adopted by concerned police officers. Bovine smuggling and drug supply are the two businesses which are flourishing in R S Pura, Bishnah, Nagrota and other areas and these are being patronized by police higher-ups. Bishnah belt is worst affected as parents are helplessly watching their children falling into this trap but police have failed to take action against drug mafia. Credible sources in the police circle alleged that high rank officers are hand in glove with drug mafia. The drug mafia is so powerful that it has prevailed upon the police officers of the area who have been allegedly following dictates of the people comprising of this mafia. Credible sources said that Bishnah belt comprising some police stations has emerged as hub of drugs due to casual approach being adopted by the officers at the helm of the affairs. Some senior officers, who claim to be very honest and committed, are directly or indirectly helping the gangs involved in selling drugs to the youth in this border belt. Some police officers, with political background, have managed their postings in crucial areas but they have proved to be incapable to handle such sensitive positions. There is one police officer, who is looking after such sensitive areas. He has been appointed due to his political influence of his family but it is only during his tenure that business of bovine smuggling and drug supplies have flourished manifold. |
