PHE employees go on “KAM CHORO HARTAL” | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 15: The "KAAM CHORO HARTAL of the All J&K PHE ITI-Trained/CP Workers Association started from today. A protest was held by PHE daily wagers in front of the Chief Engineer's office here. Protestor on the occasion said the demands of poor daily wager ITI-trained /CP workers, need-based/casual labourers in the PHE Department had not fulfilled. The workers had been struggling for the regularisation of their services. "For the last many years the association has been struggling for justice, but it was always fooled. In spite of so many assurances, practically nothing is being done by the state government. A number of committees and sub-committees were formed by the government to resolve our long-pending issues, but every time our files were seen gathering dust in the secretariat. The move of the previous government was also a mere eyewash," PHE leader claimed. They appealed to the Governor to solve long-pending demands before the stipulated date. He, however, apologised for the inconvenience to the residents of the winter capital due to non-supply of water during the strike. Due to the strike, the water supply to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan, Katra, was also stopped, the association claimed. There are total 23,711 temporary workers rendering their services in the PHE Department in J&K. Out of these, around 16,070 are casually paid (CP) workers in the Jammu province and 2,100 Industrial Training Institute (ITI)-trained workers. |
