1 held, 2 Govt employees suspended for inciting tension | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Sept 15: Police have arrested a youth and placed under suspension two government employees here for allegedly inciting communal tension in Rajouri town on Wednesday. When tension showed no sign of receding, the authorities concerned placed Rajouri under curfew restrictions on Wednesday night. According to official sources, curfew was clamped in the town following an alleged 'clash' over the rumour that meat was being carried in a tempo traveller. Both sides targeted each other's business establishments. Some shops were also burnt amidst heavy stone pelting last night, forcing the administration to call in army. A local youth was taken into custody by police for allegedly spreading rumours of meat, while two state government employees were suspended for allegedly inciting people to come on the roads, said Rajouri Deputy Commissioner Shabir Ahmed Bhat. Bhat identified the arrested youth as a transport agent, of Jawahar Nagar and the suspended employees as naib- tehsildar Khurshid Tantray and Zonal Physical Education Officer Pervez Sikander. The curfew, which was clamped in the town at 8 pm yesterday, remained in force today without any relaxation. The two government employees were alleged to have incited people to come on the road after the clash. Police have registered four separate FIRs in the matter. One against those spreading beef rumours, another against those who had incited people and the two others for indulging in stone pelting and arson. Meanwhile Northern Army Commander Lt Gen D S Hooda today visited curfew-bound Rajouri district and appealed for peace in the region which had witnessed stone-pelting and arson yesterday after communal tension. The Army Commander reviewed the security situation in Rajouri and interacted with the civil administration, Defence spokesman of Northern Command said. He appealed to the people to maintain calm and contribute towards restoration of peace in the region, the spokesman said. Lt Gen Hooda assured them of all possible assistance in maintaining normalcy in the region.
