SRINAGAR, Oct 6: As students across Kashmir have been taking onto the streets against government's decision of holding exams in November, the authorities have softened their stand and said government was ready to accept any suggestions from the students to ensure exams were conducted well in time.
In view of the prevailing situation, the State Board of School Education (BOSE) has rescheduled the annual examination for class 10th and 12th in Kashmir division.
According to a notification issued by BOSE earlier, the examination for both 10th and 12th classes in Kashmir division would be conducted in second week of November 2016.
"We shall have to complete the process of conduct of examinations and declaration of results well in time so that the students can prepare for and appear in various competitive examinations including NEET and JEE for admission to various professional courses, both within and outside the State," Minister for education Naeem Akhtar said.
But the students have resented the move and said it was not possible to appear in exams as they said they have completed less than 50 percent syllabus thus putting Naeem Akhtar in a tight spot.
"We are ready to accept any of the demands from the students to ensure exams are conducted well in time. The syllabus can also be reduced besides extending other leniencies to students," Chairman Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education Zahoor Ahmad Chat told Early Times.
Student continued their protests against 10th and 12th examinations with several groups taking to streets in Srinagar and elsewhere. They said they were not able to attend the schools due to continuous shutdowns.
They accused the state education ministry of being "blind to the situation". The students have been protesting against government's decision of conducting exams in November amid the prevailing situation when they were not able to attend their school.
