Influential lobby hushes up Rs 1.53 Cr scam in GMC&H

JAMMU, Oct 6: A lobby exercising influence over various quarters has successfully hushed up a scam involving diversion of Rs 1.53 Crores in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu, despite assurances by Minister for Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department in State Legislative Assembly to probe the same shortly.
Moreover, in the month of June 2016, Minister for H&ME had also assured the members of Legislative Assembly to constitute a high level committee to look into the matter but surprisingly after four months the Minister has failed to get the issue investigated.
Here is need to mention that Rs 1.53 Crores were diverted, which were sought from the government to meet the requirements of GMC&H, but same were diverted on the directions of GMC&H Principal, who had requested for diversion of funds to the Mechanical Division of the Hospital.
The Principal GMC&H had also relieved the then Deputy Director Planning without explaining any reason, with a motive allegedly to hide the diversion of funds.
Reliable sources told Early Times that the matter, involving alleged diversion of Rs 1.53 Crore in GMC&H to clear 'fictitious bills' of Mechanical division of the associated hospitals, was raised during assembly session and then Minister had assured to hold probe into the matter.
Since then sources said, the influential lobby, involved in the scandal, had started knocking the doors of higher ups of the concerned department with the help of some political links had started attempts to influence Minister so that scam would remain under carpet.
"Those officials including few senior doctors, who are associated with the 'Scam', are leaving no stone unturned to get out from the 'Scam'. Interestingly, the associated with scam had assigned duty to some close aid to appease the leaders and bureaucrat, "preferring anonymity an official alleged and adding that influential had used their power to influence as well as compelling the officials to delay in start enquiry.
"It has become routine affairs in Jammu and Kashmir, when the tainted officials along with influential persons modify rules and regulations according their wishes but the tax payers money is being looted by some these tainted people in the State, "he stated and adding that but one side State Government always said that the actions was being taken against corrupted officials but reality it seems the e Government was nowhere and no actions is being taken against them.
"Beside, crores rupees have been gone waste or looted by above said people and no one care about the tax payers' money but when senior doctors demand funds for the development of the departments GMC&H and associated hospitals then higher officials claims there is already shortage of funds, "he asserted.
