10/6/2016 11:18:54 PM
ET Report
Jammu, Oct 6: The businessmen in Rajouri town are up in arms against the local BJP leaders, who had promised compensation for the losses suffered by them during the communal clashes in the area last month.
Communal clashes were followed by arson and looting following which BJP leaders had appeared in the town and had promised all possible help to the victim businessmen.
Although two state government employees were suspended and a youth was taken into custody in connection with the communal clash in but no compensation has been given to the businessmen till date.
The so-called “nationalist” BJP had deputed a minister to assess the losses but no action has been taken so far.
After betraying Uri martyrs, BJP has not ditched affected businessmen of the border district of Rajouri who became victim of the acts of anti-national elements. People of Rajouri have repeatedly brought this issue before the party leadership but BJP ministers have no time to take up this matter with the government. They are busy in preparing transfer lists of their respective departments.
As reported trouble erupted in the town after a group of local youths intercepted a vehicle and alleged that it was carrying bovines. Following a clash between the two groups both sides targeted each other’s business establishments.

Some establishments belonging to members of the minority community were set ablaze, forcing the administration to call the Army and curfew was imposed in the town.

Four separate FIRs were filed in the matter — one against those spreading the rumours, another against those inciting members of the majority community and two others against those who indulged in stone pelting and arson.
The high-level committee, headed by Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD), had visited the damaged shops which were set on fire by the miscreants in violence on September 14 evening and assessed the losses suffered by the shopkeepers and businessmen.
Violent protestors had ransacked a hotel and a general store while three shops, including a showroom, were set on fire. Around half a dozen shops were also damaged by the miscreants.
