Rajouri, Oct 6: Himalayan College Rajouri organized symposium on the concept of peace and non violence in major religions of India today in the multipurpose hall of the college. The event was organized as a part of the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti. As many as 31 students participated and extensively deliberated in the issue. They opined that peace, non violence, tolerance , brotherhood and mutual respect forms the very basis of all the major religions of India including Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism and Christianity. However the followers of the religion are not in sync with the teachings and preaching of scriptures. Religion has become a case of inheritance only instead of becoming a case of discovery and therefore the followers of various religion fall prey to misinterpretation and exploitation. The symposium concluded on the keynote that in order to make India a healthy, peaceful and progressive plural society the citizens of this great nation must learn to respect each other's faith besides comprehending their own religions. Tolerance they believed is the mantra for real peace at individual, social, national and international level. |
