Rajouri bus stand lacks basic facilities
10/13/2016 9:49:07 PM
Early Times Report

Rajouri, Oct 13: Rajouri bus stand is a visible example of negligence on part of district administration and officials of Municipal Committee (MC) as it has no basic facilities like passenger waiting sheds, safe drinking water, clean toilets , smooth and clean platform etc.
Heaps of garbage, solid waste with stray animals are common scenes while the commuters can be seen standing in front of the shops or on the road leading to the bus stand.
Toilets constructed by the municipality are in such a bad condition that people avoid to use them especially women avid usuing them.
Not to talk about the bus stand but the entire old town, where more than twenty thousand people visit for their daily routine work and shopping, has been encroached by the influential people in nexus with the MC /revenue officials and has left no space to construct the toilets
"Every corner including municipality land and some MC buildings have been allotted to the political/ powerful community leaders. Even the district administration has failed badly to vacate the encroached government land despite clear cut directions by the High Court" said Yog Raj Sharma, political & social activist.
According to Revenue Department J&K , Rajouri district is heading the list of government land encroachers and about 49000 kanals of government land has been encroached in the district.
Few days ago a Safai Abhiyan was launched with fan fare by the Vice Chairman , Pahari Advisory Board and MLC from bus stand Rajouri.
But immediately after that heaps of garbage appeared near the bus stand being dumped by the MC employees.
The bus stand is in such a bad condition and filled with potholes that whenever there was rain pothole got filled with dirty water and commuter face many difficulties in boarding the buses.
The bus stand has totally being neglected by the MC officials and for the last many years MC officials as well as district administration has failed to identify land for the disposal of solid waste of the town.
After collecting garbage from the town MC employees dump this garbage either on the bank of Rajouri river or at some places including old bus stand and put it on fire thus putting the lives of the innocent citizens at risk by polluting the environment.
"Some places were identified for the disposal of solid waste of Rajouri town but all these were rejected by the State Pollutoin Control Board officials because of fragile ecology, human habitations , threats of air and water pollution" said M Lone, Executive Officer, MC.
