Early Times Report
Vijaypur, Oct 13: At a time when the Army is being showered praise for carrying out surgical strike in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, land grabbers have demolished a martyr's memorial in village Patti of Vijaypur in Samba district. Sources told Early Times that some miscreants on the instance of land grabbers demolished the memorial of Om Parkash Sharma of 3 JAK Rifles. Sharma had attained martyrdom at the age of 22 during Indo-China war in 1962. The memorial was constructed in 2000 on government land, and the land around the memorial which is about four kanals has been already grabbed by the land mafia and is fenced with barbed wire. Though the memorial was located adjacent to the grabbed land, the act of demolishing was well planned to grab that piece of the land as well. "Although few plinths have been raised by the grabbers, the administration has not taken any action against," sources said. Shockingly, no political party or any senior leader has spoken on the issue. The relatives of the martyr said the act of demolition has hurt their sentiments. "We wanted a park to be constructed around the memorial. But the land mafia has hurt our feelings," they said. The DSP concerned said he had talked to the Tehsildar and sought a status report. |
