Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 13: The decision of the Union cabinet to approve Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Jammu, has virtually left former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah fuming.
To give vent to his ire Omar took to twitter on Thursday. He forgot that he ruled Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh for six years and as a former Chief Minister of the state he has to act responsibly.
Moreover if one goes by the tone of the repeated tweets, Omar seems to be biased towards Jammu and he totally forgot Ladakh region. He raised question over intentions of incumbent Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, to target the majority vote bank of National Conference, which is in Kashmir.
The flurry of events started with the first tweet made by Prime Minister Office (PMO) this afternoon, giving approval for establishment of IIM at Jammu, which was followed by second tweet, which reads, "The IIM, coupled with IIT at Jammu, modernization of NIT Srinagar and opening of two new AIIMS, one each in Kashmir and Jammu region", and third tweet, "…. would go a long way in meeting the requirement of high quality living and education in Jammu and Kashmir".
The tweets of PMO seemingly left former Chief Minister enraged, who tweeted, "Jammu gets the IIT & gets the IIM also. Where have all those voices that called for balanced regional development in J&K disappeared?" Attacking incumbent CM, Omar again tweeted, "I realise that @MehboobaMufti has had to sell out her political agenda to remain in power but I didn't realize she's sold her soul also!!!".
One of the followers, Mayur DG replied, "@abdullah_omar @MehboobaMufti why are you more concerned about Valley than Jammu? It's same state no?", while as Ashk47 wrote, "Your Wahabbis are still pelting stones. EDI is still burning..You want IIMs as more terror tgts (sic)?".
Another netizen, Dr R Rathore wrote, "Look Devil is talking abt SOUL tht definitely is an IRONY , Mr EX CM do introspect (sic), We Jammu Ppl know Eveything (sic)".
Former Chief Minister made more tweets and tweeted, "When Kashmir was awarded an AIIMS Jammu agitated, successfully, for its right to be granted one as well. Why this partisanship now? (sic)". Once again, the followers reacted sharply and a follower wrote, "Why are you pitting Jammu against Kashmir? You are quite a shameless person", whereas another said, "Why are you agitating when it's about Jammu? U should thinking for J&K. Don't forget secretariat moves both in Jammu and Kashmir (sic)."
Omar went on to tweet, "And don't tell me an "out campus" is good enough because if it was the IIM would have been placed in Kashmir without campus in Jammu (sic)."
RTI activist from Jammu, Raman Sharma wrote, "Respected sir understand your pain…plz just try the following.." and pasted a picture of "Burnol-The original burns cream".
Talking to Early Times Raman Sharma said that it is very unfortunate that former Chief Minister of JK seems only bothered about Kashmir. "It shows the shortsightedness of the top NC leader, who is only concerned about Kashmir and is least bothered about Jammu and Ladakh regions of the state," he added.
Omar Abdullah went on to write, "This is just blatant partisan politics of the kind we have come to expect from the BJP-PDP. No wonder so much of the state is restive today…"
Repeated tweets of Omar Abdullah got mixed replies and a follower wrote, "Did people from Jammu raise any objection when Kashmir got SKIMS and NIT? This is how hatred arises b/w communities (sic)".
"Omar is deliberately twisting facts. The decision to set up IIM in Jammu was taken about year back. Former CM, who keeps tab on the things more on the online than on ground, should have come out to protest against this decision then. He could have asked his party cadre to come out on the streets to demand IIM in Kashmir, which he never did. He is trying to add fuel to the fire by instigating people in Kashmir. Its' really unfortunate," said an analyst.
"The much delayed statement of the former Chief Minister just clearly reflects that he is only playing to the gallery to further his own diminishing political career rather than being concerned about the real development of Kashmir," he added.
"Omar is also hiding the fact that for time Kashmir has been getting all the premier institutions be it NIIT, Soura Medical Institute and other prestigious institutions while Jammu has always suffered. The NC has always ignored Jammu. Omar is carrying forward the legacy of his grandfather late Sheikh Abdullah. In the process he is creating a wedge between Jammu and Kashmir," said a Kashmir watcher.
