Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 13: "Don't press yes on receipt your card will hang on for five minutes" reads the notice pasted on all Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) of a bank at City Centre Lal Chowk. According to the clientele, "Before entering into the ATM booth, the security guard outside the machine rather than performing his duties can be seen warning people not to press yes on receipt as after drawing the cash, it takes at least five minutes to release the card after pressing the 'Yes' button." "Moreover, what irritates a customer is the delay caused in getting the card back. Besides, the ATM machine doesn't print the balance receipt," they added. The customers further claimed that the slouch approach towards the ATM functioning does not behoove an institution that is writing new chapters of economic success and organizational prosperity with each passing day. Speaking to 'Early Times', a security guard, guarding an ATM at city centre Lal Chowk said that the problem people have been facing has never been addressed by the bank. He added that due to the inconvenience, the customers argue with him and even beat them for none of their fault. "We have been bearing the brunt of customers. Instead of discharging my duties, I have to counsel the customers about the mandatory information the bank has pasted regarding the handling of the machine," the security guard said. He said that the hassles related to the 'Yes' button has been a cause of irritation among the customers who unknowingly press the button only to stuck their card resulting huge inconvenience to customers . He adds that the problem has never been fixed even in Lal Chowk area. While admitting that the said ATM's are functioning inefficiently for the many years, officials from ATM Handling Desk assured that these ATM's will be replaced shortly. The officials appealed the customers to bear with the same until the replacement is done.
