ARs' selection: JU hiding probe details

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 13: The Jammu University administration is allegedly hiding details of the probe ordered in the fraudulent selection of Assistant Registrars (ARs).
Fearing embarrassment while complying with the resolution passed in University Syndicate meet held in January 2016 to refer the case to Crime Branch, the JU took the matter in the shape of agenda item 80.36 in the 80th Council Meeting held in April this year wherein the resolution of the Syndicate was nullified.
According to the minutes, it was "resolved that the decision with respect to getting the matter thoroughly investigated and reference of the matter to the Crime Branch vis-à-vis the lapse that has occurred regarding the issuance of the interview call letter to the candidate, who had not appeared in the entrance test, be dropped."
If sources are to be believed the Vice Chancellor, Prof Ramji Dass Sharma, who ordered the cancellation of selection process for ARs as his daughter was also among the candidates and failed to qualify for interview, knew well that he would be exposed if Crime Branch would start investigation in the case. So he took the matter in Council and got it dashed on some fictitious ground.
As per agenda item No: 80.36, the Vice Chancellor has desired "all resolutions under item 109.61 be reported to the University Council in its next meeting as these decision have far reaching implications" and "resolution No: 109.61 (c) be placed before the Syndicate again with complete history of the matter as the same was not done its last meeting".
Sources said the matter of referring the case to Crime Branch as resolved in Syndicate meeting had become a source of headache for the VC for his own wrong doings and the university invented a trick to take the shelter of University Council, hoodwinking the supreme forum to get the controversial resolution dropped.
"Astonishingly the said item was placed before Syndicate without complete history of the matter. It speaks volumes about casual approach of Registrar who intended to buy time and delay the issue involving daughter of the VC who lagged behind well merited candidates," sources said.
If a call letter was sent by the university to a candidate who had not appeared in the entrance test, as the document revealed, the University authority could have tackled this issue on its own merit by taking stern action against defaulters responsible for issuing such interview call and excluded the said candidate from the list of other eligible candidate called for interview.
Sources said that if there was no hanky panky, which otherwise appears, the University should have continued with the process of scheduled interview for the post of ARs. But the university preferred to cancel the whole process of interview just on flimsy grounds for the sake of daughter of the VC.
"Most of the resolutions passed in Syndicate (held in Jan 2016) have been implemented, although these too were allegedly fraught with flaws as it did not seemingly hit the interests of some people in the University. If the University found that the item No: 109.61 was not properly presented with detailed history of the case in the Syndicate meeting, the University could have presented the same in University Council meeting held in April 2016 with detailed history", sources said.
