| Pandit leadership upset; mock J&K Govt's claim, call it 'extremely hostile' | | Home Ministry refuses IDP status to KPs | | | Syed Junaid Hashmi
Jammu, Jan 25: Kashmiri Pandits are shocked over Union Home Ministry's denial to declare them as 'Internally displaced Persons (IDPs)'.
They have expressed regret and dismay over Union Home Ministry's refusal to accept recommendations of the high-powered Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs. By outrightly declining to refer Kashmiri Pandits as 'internally Displaced Persons', Union Home Ministry has seemingly refused to accept exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir valley as akin to genocide, as has been described by National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
If the State Government is 'hostile' towards us, the Government in New Delhi is in denial mode, say the Kashmiri Pandits in unison. "It is not a question of nomenclature but about the rights of a minority which has been bearing pain and agony of being refugees in their own land. They are in denial that a community was forced to leave by fundamentalists who wanted merger of Kashmir with Pakistan," said President of Panun Kashmir Ashwani Churangoo.

| Congress leaves Omar red-faced | | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 25: The consistent and hard stand taken by the Congress on not creating new administrative units solely on the recommendations of the Mushtaq Ganai report, which is reported to be discriminatory against Jammu and Ladakh regions, has infuriated the National Conference.
The Congress had left Omar Abdullah red-faced last evening by refusing to succumb to his diktats of submitting report to him on Jan 24. It has left National Conference so frustrated that it has now accused Congress of cheating Omar Abdullah.
Higher Education Minister Akbar Lone had told a Srinagar based news agency that Congress has cheated Omar and it was because of this that he (Omar ) got an...
| | | | Kamaal calls Congress 'selfish' for eyeing political gains from new administrative units | | Coalition collides head on over CSC | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 25 : National Conference today termed its coalition partner Congress as a 'selfish party' that wants political mileage out of creation of new administrative units in the state.
Dr Mustafa Kamaal, NC's additional general secretary observed that the delay in preparing the report by the Congress led Cabinet Sub Committee (CSC) on creation of new administrative units is as good as hiding the report.
"Their (Congress) intentions seem wrong. This is a selfish party and sensing that it will get routed in Jammu and Kashmir like other parts of the country, it wants political benefits out of the new administrative units. We want this exercise should benefit people ...
| | | | Is any political figure ready to act as an agent of change in J&K? | | | | ET Report
Jammu, Jan 25: If people in Jammu and Kashmir want a change in governance they may not be able to experience it because there is none who can act as agents of change. The reason being that even after a major alteration in the political arrangement for forming a Government people have to bank on three musketeers, the Congress, PDP and the NC.
Prior to the birth of the PDP it used to be either a Congress rule or a Government run by the National Conference or a Congress-NC coalition rule. After the birth of the PDP two major changes have taken place. It can invariably be a coalition Government because each Assembly poll is likely to throw up a hung House. It has to be either ...
| | | | Why is Rattanpuri silent? | | | |
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Jan 25: While broadcasters have opted for politics to 'change' the condition of the people, Rajya Sabha member, GN Rattanpuri has decided to remain silent for the time being. Dismayed by the National Conference and its leadership, the former broadcaster had vowed to expose the duplicity of Omar Abdullah. He even considered surrendering the Rajya Sabha seat.
According to sources, Rattanpuri even held talks with Omar's 'enemies' causing a stir in the `kitchen cabinet ' (Sheikh Family) of the organization. He was asked to quit.
Omar gave vent to his anger at a public function. "Rattanpuri has no business to be in the National Conference now. He should immedi...

| | | | RTI regarding kidnapping, forced induction into militancy | | SIC reprimands Addl Secretary Home | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 25: The State Information Commission (SIC) has taken a serious note of non disposal of a first appeal filed under J&K Right to Information Act (RTI) by one Riyaz-ul-Hassan Malik who had sought details about alleged kidnapping of a teenager from a Kishtwar village by militants who later forced him to join militant ranks.
The RTI was filed before Station House Officer (SHO) of Kishtwar last year and when the information was not provided to the RTI applicant he filed an appeal before the State Home Department and the Additional Secretary Home who is also the First Appellate Authority (FAA) of the Home Department. The Addl Secretary did not bother to dispose off...
| | | | New administrative units: Litmus test for Congress | | | | Neha
Jammu, Jan 25: The people of Jammu province had been repeatedly bemoaning that the National Conference (NC) and similar other Valley-based and Kashmir-centric communal organizations had all along treated them shabbily and rendered them ineffective for all practical purposes. When viewed this charge in the light of the available official data their charge appears to be well-founded. Official records do show that the people of Jammu province, Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims included, have little or no space in the NC's political, administrative and economic scheme of things and that their only duty is to pay taxes and suffer neglect and humiliations.
The latest instance of the anti-Jammu pro...
