| | Raised on pattern of SPOs, TA proving to be asset in tackling militancy in J&K | | | BHARAT BHUSHAN
JAMMU, Jan 4: Raised on the pattern of SPOs (special police officers), TA (territorial army) is proving to be an asset in tackling militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.
When militancy was at its peak in the state, SPOs were engaged by police to break ultras' local network. The idea worked well, as on the basis of their valuable inputs, forces got success in eliminating several militants and apprehending their sympathisers.
Informatiion comes to them first because they are mainly posted in the areas they belong to. It would not be wrong to say that recruiting a SPO from a village is like recruiting the whole population of the area.
After the successful police experiment with SPO...

Jammu, Jan 4: Is City of Temples 'gradually' becoming place for dumping garbage and waste building material?
Yes, if one makes a round of city outskirts.
And for all the said mess, special thanks to ongoing "disagreement" between two Congress heavyweights; Minister for Housing and Urban Development and Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Taj Mohi-U-Din.
Following a 'ban' by Minister Taj Mohi-U-Din not to dump garbage and waste building material collected from the city in River Tawi, officials of Jammu Municipal Corporation area already under a fix where to dispose the collected waste and are buying time from the local in...
| | Will sermonizing of CM help PDD in improving power scenario? | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Jan 4: Will Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's sermonizing help the state to come out of mess and improve working of the Power Development Department? Facts do not support the argument.
Sermons are unlikely to move mountains and improve working of PDD in Jammu and Kashmir or for that matter improve power scenario across the state. Government clamored a lot about revocation of AFSPA and when centre outrightly refused to even consider this demand, they shifted to return of power projects.
While the return of power projects issue is being projected at every forum, the same is unlikely to see light of the day. The wise advisors of the government have been telling the...
| | Rajouri people resent closure of entry gate to Mughalia Masjid | | | SHAFIQ MIR
RAJOURI, Jan 4: The people here have strongly resented the closure of entry gate to Mughlia Masjid by the management of government higher secondary school, Rajouri.

Among others, the meeting was attended by deputy commissioner G A Khawaja and SSP Vijay Singh Sambyal.

| | Afflicted with 'come tomorrow' syndrome, civil secretariat visitors hope for a 'better day' | | | KUNAL SHRIVATSA
JAMMU, Jan 4: Whether it is Jammu or Srinagar, -The Darbar 'Civil Secretariat'- highest seat of power- when functional in either of the two capital cities, becomes alive with the visitors for getting their problems mitigated but amidst the tall claims of government of providing a 'people friendly' regime the 'bitter' experiences of a large number of people here provide otherwise a sordid picture of 'official apathy' and 'red-tapism.'
A large number of people from across the state come here with a twinkle of hope in their eyes and an unflinching faith that their pending applications, files or any other document will be okayed in shortest possible time as often boasted by th...
| | Wanted an interlocutor for interlocutors! | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 4: More than a month has passed since New Delhi's nominated interlocutors submitted their report to the Home Ministry. However, the concerned seem in no hurry to consider the `crucial report'.
While the people in the Valley seem indifferent to the outcome of the report, it is the interlocutors who have lost patience. Last month, the Chief Interlocutor sought former chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayed's intervention for consideration of his report by New Delhi.
The reluctance of New Delhi to consider the report, according to a Hurriyat activist, has vindicated the stand of the separatists. Pertinent to mention the separatists boycotted them. However, some me...

| | Countering Misinformation Campaign The First Task | Jammu's Plight | | NEHA
JAMMU, Jan 4: Kashmir is very fortunate in every respect. It has leadership which works in unison, ensures all-round development of Kashmir and on an unprecedented scale, fights for its people and behaves in a fashion that makes some important persons at the helm in New Delhi and outside as well as "opinion leaders" and "think-tanks" believe in what it preaches in order to extract as many concessions from New Delhi as possible. And, it has been happening since decades, particularly since 1931. It was in the 1920s that Sheikh Abdullah of Kashmir and his supporters unleashed a vilification campaign against the Dogras and the Dogra Maharaja with a view to "achieving freedom from Jammu"....
| | Chidambaram, Kashmir and separatists | Result-Oriented Talks | | RUSTAM
JAMMU, Jan 4: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has complicated things in Kashmir by making controversial statements. There should be no doubt about it. He has said certain things about Kashmir no one in the New Delhi's South and North Blocks ever said. Take, for example, his October 2009 Srinagar statement. He had said in Srinagar that "Kashmir has a unique history and unique geography and Kashmir is a unique problem that needs a unique solution". It is this statement that is being exploited to the hilt by the votaries of autonomy, self-rule and independence and by those who say that Jammu and Kashmir just cannot be considered an integral part of India. Even interlocutors for Jamm...
| | CISF action confirms govt's complete administrative failure | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Jan 4: Amidst accusations of state government having turned Jammu and Kashmir into police state, latest revelations that all units of the CISF were told last September not to wait for arrival of the police and take all possible steps necessary for the security of the installation threatened by mob violence has added to this belief.
Despite Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's vehement claims, observers largely believe that such types of instructions or orders have many dimensions while taking into account vulnerability of Kashmir society in response to situations that can erupt out on issues of eco-political interest.
